I hope you're all having a great day. Today I wanted to walk you through my “Type”. Now I under no means think you need to label yourself as any specific type of witch in order to practice any kind of spirituality. A big part of what I practice takes bits and pieces from here and there and I know that when I was being reintroduced to my spirituality learning about all of the different “types” of witches was fascinating and I just thought I'd share mine.
I was raised by my grandparents (Oma and Opa) from the ages of 13 months to 13 year's old exactly (ironic number pattern I know) before I moved back in with my mother. Now a bit of backstory, my Oma was taught and raised by her Oma all that she knew about her craft. My Opa, mom and aunt didn't really want anything to do with it and didn't really understand any of it which is okay, to each their own. This in turn made my Oma become a semi-closeted witch. I however dove into the whole world headfirst with tons of enthusiasm. Now because of this Oma and myself practiced, not in secret but it was our own special little bubble. From the age of 3 and up I was practicing and I am so blessed to be able to classify as my first Type, a Hereditary Witch. Which is fairly self explanatory, a Hereditary Witch is someone born into the practice and who is taught usually from a young age.
Now I will admit, when my Oma passed I was 13 years old and I was moved in with my mother who as previously mentioned wanted nothing to do with anything spiritual. Over the years I unfortunately fell away from the craft and lost touch with such a huge part of myself. It's only been the last 2-3 years that i've been dipping my toes back in and I can't even express how alive I feel. Not only that but it feels very comforting to be back in touch with something that meant so much to someone who meant so much to me.
Now onto the second type I identify as, which is Eclectic. Now Eclectic witches are what I like to describe as the pick and choose witches who take bits and pieces and different practices and interest from all different types of witches. I have three main types I take almost all from and a few others that I take inspiration from. The three main types are Hedge Witches, Grey Witches, and Elemental Witches. I'm going to insert some spot on summaries that the amazing @witchytips on Instagram made up.
